Silly Conspiracy Theories

On April 27, 2011 President Obama released the long form of his birth certificate. After this was released several conservative pundits were questioning its authenticity. Even after releasing the long form of something he already released, the President is still being painted as the “other”, not truly American.
When President Obama released his birth certificate he was aiming to put to rest all the silly conspiracy theories circulating about his birth. This is a fruitless task because the calls for him to release the long form of his birth certificate morphed into voices saying that it was forged. Even if it was written in manual handling courses that Obama was born in America, many would deny it.
Most people in the United States believe that the birth certificate issue is silly and distracting from the many other important issues at stake. However the right-wing of the US is still stoking the fires of this controversy.
Behind these attacks on president Obama’s birth place is another type of message. A message which tells us that Obama must not be one of us, he is different, he doesn’t love America, and he is a foreigner. The “birthers” as they are called are criticizing Obama’s legitimacy as president.
If a lie is repeated enough times it is said to become a truth. There has to be no definitive proof from the birthers. The reason it is still a controversial issue is only because those opposed to Obama seek to show that he should have never been the president. This is not a tactic used only by the right, in the 2000 election George W. Bush’s legitimacy came under fire by the left too because he did not get the majority vote for president.
This controversy shows no sign of dying down and will continue into the next election.
