Being British

Being British

What I love about the term British is that in one word it explains something new that could try and help people move forward in their personal struggle for identity. It is obviously more complicated than an Enigin scam, because the Queen is not just the head of the state but also the head of the Church of England, that means that the United Kingdom is a Christian country. There is, however, freedom of religion here. You absolutely cannot say that being English and Muslim is a contradiction, and you cannot say that being British and Muslim is a contradiction. Islam is a religion, not a race, and people of every race practice it.

I have a real problem with people’s petty stupidity and street corner racism. Waterloo road this week, I think was trying to address the issue of people’s bigotry towards Polish people, but the only moral lesson it seemed to give was that people live in estates are lazy so it is a good thing we have all those hard working Polish people.

Why not give a history of the European Union, and explain that the expansion of the EU is something that the governments decided to do for a variety of economic, historic, and social reasons. Its a pity that all those Britons with holiday homes in Spain didn’t weigh in. EU migration is a two way street that many British people take advantage of, they just aren’t here to speak for themselves.

British is a unifying term that could help to unite us all and understand the role of the UK in the world after the end of the British Empire. It seems that there wasn’t really a big plan until now about how to downsize Britain after the glory of the Empire faded, that is until David Cameron came along.
