Michael Bay Does it Again

How many times will I fall for it? I see a trailer for a movie, and with baited breath, I wait. The glitz, the glamor, the promise, all wrapped up in a nice bespoke packaging of period costumes and props on well known actors. Knowing full well that it’s another Michael Bay movie, I still wait with anticipation. I want to be wrong; I want Michael Bay to finally make a quality movie. But why do I delude myself? I’ve seen it all before, why can’t I learn from my mistakes?

The first time I was bamboozled by this “filmmaker” was with Pearl Harbour. The first time I saw the trailers, I was jazzed; finally a new era of war films! But, after only twenty minutes in, I realised that I had been duped. Michael Bay tricked me for the first time.

But that can’t be enough, could it? Well, it can. It happened countless times after that, with The Island and Bad Boys II. But the biggest atrocity of Michael Bay has to have been Transformers. As a child of the ‘80s I was waiting for this beauty for many years, and when I saw the teaser trailer for the first time, I was excited–until I saw that name at the bottom. I ignored my initial desire to boycott the film based on the director and decided to remain optimistic and see if maybe – just maybe – Mr. Bay could make a quality film. And of course as you all know, I was wrong. Only Michael Bay could ruin such a great chance.

And what’s worse, they allow him to do it again! Two sequels (one released, one in production) of a terrible film are allowed to be made. This is unacceptable, and I won’t fall for it. If in the future I desire a dip of nostalgia, I will go rent the classic cartoon. Never in my life will I fall for the trickery of Michael Bay.
