5 Reasons not To Trust Politicians
Regardless of what country or government you are referring to, politicians in general should never be trusted. Deep inside all of us, even those with unfailing faith in their leaders, there is a sense of doubt and trepidation when it comes to what a politician tells us. The following are the five reasons why politicians cannot and should not be trusted.
1. Machiavelli. The legendary political theorist taught politicians that their main goal is to gain power and maintain it at all costs. As a result, politicians rarely will do something that will benefit the nation and its citizens if it means sacrificing their role as a leading power.
2. Interest in their own goals. Since all politicians, regardless of their “integrity”, will attempt to maintain their Machiavellian grip on power, the logical result is that they will invariably look after their own interests and goals. Politicians will rarely do anything if there isn’t an obvious and guaranteed benefit for themselves or their lobbyists.
3. Lies. All politicians lie. We have seen it for as long as we’ve had governments and this will never change. Since #1 and #2 have taught us that a politician will only look after their own goals and interests in order to maintain power, they are likely to lie to the media and their loyal supporters. George “Dubbs” Bush was a perfect example of a lying politician. Not only did the US enter Iraq under false pretences (biodiesel anyone), he was also unwilling to come clean with his blatant lies.
4. Misdirection. Whenever a politician is in trouble with the public, they will likely try to take attention away from the problem by creating another, whether real or not. A good example of this is the recent H1N1 flu. Here, we had a serious problem created to misdirect attention away from the world’s economic woes. When was the last time you heard anything about H1N1? It’s been months, and nobody has solved the problem.
5. History. Throughout the ages, politicians have been untrustworthy. From Caesar to Napoleon, there is not one politician that deserved my trust. This is unlikely to change any time soon.
